Misappropriated Music: Toxic
I’m sure we all remember Britney Spears’ “Toxic”. It is arguably the best song she ever recorded, and it had the added bonus of a ridiculous music video (which is like manna to us here at AU!). But when it came time to do a Misappropriated Music, it was so hard to decide what cover to use. The faithful acoustic version by Nickel Creek? The driving electronic version by Local H? But I think you will all agree that I found the best version possible.
The conversion to Blip darkened the video immensely, so you may have to adjust viewing conditions accordingly. Audible Underwear: interactive snark!
ALSO: look over on the sidebar and you will see a new link. Store! That’s right, for no other reason than to entertain myself and fit in with my Media Slayer partners, I have started an AU Store! New designs will be added haphazardly (and feel free to suggest things that deserve shirt treatment). For someone who has no artistic ability, I must say I’ve done a pretty good job so far. So come check them out!

Misappropriated Music: Battlefield
A special for Valentine’s Day: If only there was some way to properly describe the hardships that come with interpersonal relationships, the give and take, the potential for pain that comes with opening up your heart to another person….a totally original sentiment about what love feels like….oh well.
Misappropriated Music: Christmas Light Edition
I was going to post a new episode of MVT3K today, but I am waiting on content from another producer. So, I will push that back temporarily, and instead bring Christmas to AU a few days early. All these are real light displays I found online, but with new music. Enjoy!
Misappropriated Music: Ice Ice Baby Resampled
This week, we do another kind of Misappropriated Music, and finally settle the great debate: Does that extra ‘dun’ really make it a new song?
Misappropriated Music: Homecoming
I’ve wanted to do this mash-up ever since I first heard this song by The Teenagers. They suck, they suck very badly. They are pretentious minimalist art-trash with barely any melody sung with horrific accents and their subject matter is reprehensible. But when placed underneath some classic movie musical footage, it becomes HI-LARIOUS to me.
Also, you may notice that gray bar at the bottom of each entry. If you happen to be a member of Digg or one of the other networks shown, you can click on the icon and recommend it. Also, there may be some extra ads on the page, I don’t know, it seems to be out of my hands so apologies if they get annoying.
Misappropriated Music: Sober
Bonus video for Halloween!
In today’s edition of Misappropriated Music, we have one of the creepiest videos of my formative years, Tool’s stop motion classic “Sober.” We’re throwing in a cover in the form of a lullaby. I know this sounds weird, and it is, but there is a line of albums called RockABye Babe, in which songs from Tool, Radiohead, and more are arranged for xylophones and toy instruments.
So does the inclusion of bell instruments make this video less creepy? My money’s on no, but let’s ask the Nightmare Juice Clown to be sure.
Misappropriated Music: Mad World
This week’s MM features Mad World by Gary Jules/Tears for Fears. It was an easy decision to use the the newer video since it was shot by the always brilliant Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). Enjoy, subscribe and tell your friends!
Misappropriated Music: Take On Me
I’m having a domestic dispute with my editing software, and it appears to be holding the episode of MVT3K I planned to have finished for Tuesday hostage. Luckily, I do have other content finished, so here is the first installment of Misappropriated Music. It’s like a slightly conceptual mash-up. Today, A-Ha and Reel Big Fish put aside their differences and work together for the first time! Commentary here.
