Misappropriated Music: Sober
Bonus video for Halloween!
In today’s edition of Misappropriated Music, we have one of the creepiest videos of my formative years, Tool’s stop motion classic “Sober.” We’re throwing in a cover in the form of a lullaby. I know this sounds weird, and it is, but there is a line of albums called RockABye Babe, in which songs from Tool, Radiohead, and more are arranged for xylophones and toy instruments.
So does the inclusion of bell instruments make this video less creepy? My money’s on no, but let’s ask the Nightmare Juice Clown to be sure.
MVT3K: Scorned
This week, Derek delves into the evil and dangerous world of death metal in an attempt to summon Teh Satan. Apologies to any actual metalheads out there. Aaaaand here’s some commentary.
November Plans
Hey guys. Just got back from a wedding, and I have a bunch of editing to do for this week’s Halloween-appropriate videos. As for next month, it’s a bit up in the air, I’ve gotten behind on writing and gathering footage, and I will be out of town for one week so I’m hesitant to put up a schedule yet, maybe next Sunday I’ll be more sure. But here are some possible things to look forward to in November: at least two MVT3K episodes, a hopefully hilarious Misappropriated Music, the first edition of Equals Awesome, and possibly an extra special bonus video featuring the rest of DBA Inc.
Hope you all enjoy this week’s videos, and I’ll hammer out real details for next week!
Misappropriated Music: Mad World
This week’s MM features Mad World by Gary Jules/Tears for Fears. It was an easy decision to use the the newer video since it was shot by the always brilliant Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). Enjoy, subscribe and tell your friends!
MVT3K: Love You Tender
Derek dedicates a love song to a lovely soon to be wedded couple, and mocks it mercilessly. Features two horrific and easily identifiable technical gaffes amongst the smaller, nit-pickier ones. Commentary here.
Release Schedule for Oct
Hey guys, I found an annoying and overly complicated solution to my computer problem, so I will have the next episode of MVT3K ready to go, and the rest of this month’s content is in a state of mostly doneness. Therefore, I feel confident that the following schedule shall be easily upheld.
Oct 13 Music Video Theatre 3000 Ep 2
Oct 20 Misappropriated Music: Mad World
Oct 27 Music Video Theatre 3000 Ep 3
Oct 29 Misappropriated Music: Sober
Remember, clicking on that little square at the top of page will let you instantly find out when the updates arrive! And don’t be afraid to leave comments. See you on Tuesday!
Misappropriated Music: Take On Me
I’m having a domestic dispute with my editing software, and it appears to be holding the episode of MVT3K I planned to have finished for Tuesday hostage. Luckily, I do have other content finished, so here is the first installment of Misappropriated Music. It’s like a slightly conceptual mash-up. Today, A-Ha and Reel Big Fish put aside their differences and work together for the first time! Commentary here.
MVT3K Episode 1 (I’ve Gotta Feeling)
Historic first issue with holofoil cover! Derek begins a new venture in the seedy underbelly of disposable pop! Commentary here.
